Cooper Eromanga Basin

The Eromanga Basin sedimentary rocks unconformably overlie the older Cooper Basin sedimentary rocks, and the majority of Drillsearch’s production comes from the Eromanga Basin reservoirs, with oil and gas derived from the Cooper Basin source rocks. The unconformable relationship between the basins provides a migration pathway at the Permian sub-crop edge, for Permian sourced oils to reach overlying reservoir rocks.

Exploration in this Cooper/Eromanga Basins has encountered oil and gas accumulations from Permian through Cretaceous aged sedimentary rocks. In addition to the exploration permits and production licences currently held by Drillsearch, the Drillsearch Group (which includes Drillsearch Energy and its subsidiary Circumpacific Energy) currently hold preferred tenderer status over eight additional exploration permits with in the Queensland portion of the Cooper/Eromanga Basins. Structural and stratigraphic traps have been recognized and exploited throughout the basin, this in combination with the proximity all of Drillsearch’s permit areas to mature source rocks, creates an excellent area for future exploration growth.

Cumulative production from the Cooper/Eromanga Basins, since 1977, totals 270 million barrels of oil, 82 million barrels of condensate, 123 million barrels of LPG and 5.5 trillion cubic feet of sales gas, making these basins Australia’s premier onshore producing province.

2007 South West Queensland Acreage Award

Drillsearch and its 79.5% held Canadian subsidiary have been awarded preferred tenderer status over eight exploration blocks in the Cooper and Eromanga Basins of South West Queensland. This award adds 14,623 sq km to Drillsearch's land position in the Cooper/Eromanga Basins. The Group increased holdings within the basins gives the company a strong position within the oil and gas prone Cooper and Eromanga Basin

The Drillsearch Group is activity progressing the Right to Negotiate native title process with claim holders. Additionally the Group has undertaken a regional geologic study to high grade and rank the hydrocarbon prospectivty of the each of the blocks, this work includes the integration of thousands of line kilometres of vintage 2D and 3D seismic data as well as numerous well completion reports.
